At the checkout counter at GNC I noticed a bucket labeled “Buddha Balm”. The bucket was filled with different flavored chapsticks. They are promoting a “100% natural, premium, plant-based lip balm”. Their focus is to awaken the senses and promote awareness. The product is designed to deliver the companies core values, which include: Be connected, be selfless, be inspired, be extraordinary, be relevant, be authentic.
The Buddhist ‘way of life’ and philosophy can be simplified to three similar points: (1) to lead a moral life, (2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and (3) to develop wisdom and understanding.
Thus, Buddha Balm has incorporated the ‘way of life’ of Buddhism into their company. By awakening the senses, being connected, relevant, and authentic Buddha Balm has fulfilled the second ‘way of life’ criteria. Being selfless falls under the first point and all of their core values support the third.
